What a fun event! Arts Night 2019 was a terrific success. We saw the first ever ukulele performances at Lakeshore Elementary. 4th and 5th grade students chose their special musical talent they wanted to feature. Students picked recorder, ukulele, xylophones/glockenspiel, special effect instruments, dancing, or singing solos. Many students did more than one! The performance for the whole school went well and all children performed in 4th and 5th grade. Thank you to the families who came for the evening event. Videos of the evening performance are below. A few of the recorder videos did not work unfortunately. Sorry. Click on the performance you'd like to hear. Enjoy!

Music In Our Schools Month Invite
Families of K-3rd grade students are invited to visit their child's music classroom during their music class scheduled on March 14-16. Your child will be singing, moving, playing instruments and sharing their musical expertise with you in a 45 minute class. You will also be invited to participate in some of the activities. It's really fun to have families making music together and learning hands-on how a music class works! I hope you can join us. Look for a flyer in your child's folder about specific dates and times.
Kindergarten and 1st Graders Sing Solos
Kindergarten and 1st grade students have been working on finding and using their singing voices, some are even matching pitch! We sing independently a lot in class. Research shows that when students sing by themselves they can hear themselves and make adjustments. They also are gaining confidence as we work on performance skills. A few of the classes you hear have also mastered appropriate audience behaviors and are very good listeners to the singers. It is very typical at this age for students to use singing voices sporadically as they figure out the type of singing voice we're working toward in class. Please congratulate your child for singing a solo and if they are not featured on the tape they were absent that day- sorry! Kindergarten students are singing the echo song Oh My, No More Pie and the 1st graders are singing Purple Light. Enjoy!

Sarasponda
The 4th graders are working on a piece called Sarasponda that has a stick accompaniment. The red group did an amazing job the first day we tried it with actual sticks (not just the hand clap patterns) so we videotaped them. Some of the students can even sing while doing the stick patterns; impressive. Enjoy! Red Group
